Styrge Abhorreth rules preview – Dark magics await thy command
Just when you thought Dusk’s Fane of Nyrro army couldn’t possibly commit any harder to the vampire bit, in swoops Styrge Abhorreth.
First revealed in our Big Autumn Preview live on YouTube, this 80mm monster of a solo glides into pre-order from September 29, 2026.
But what horrors will such a magnificent beast bring to your eldritch army? Fraser McFetridge from the Warmachine dev team is here to fill you in on all its twisted magics.
An impressive combination of subdued beast and dark sorcerer, the Styrge Abhorreth is more than capable of warping the battlefield to its whims and unleashing primal destruction in equal measure.
By combining Agitator and Harnessed Rage abilities, it can use the high fury stats of Fane warbeasts to cast unique spells and enhance its own fighting capabilities.
To give you the best view of what Styrge Abhorreth will bring to your army, let’s take a look at how it synergises with each Fane of Nyrro warlock.
Hysene the Executioner
Eldritch combat solos are a pretty big deal in armies led by Hysene. Not only do solos gain access to both her feat protection and decapitation hunger abilities, they’re also ideal recipients of her Storm Rager spell.
All this combines to make the Styrge Abhorreth POW 18, ARM 23 with double damage on its attack (until the hunger runs out).
You’ll find Hysene taking heads in the Fane of Nyrro Command set, Executioner’s Toll.
Ashmael, Keeper of Whispers
Another layer of ranged defence provided by Styrge Abhorreth’s Warped Darkness spell can be just what Fane of Nyrro’s spymaster needs to force his foes in close… right where he wants them.
Ashmael can be found lurking in the Fane of Nyrro Death’s Whisper army box.
Auricant Vorsalys
Vorsalys, the master of control spells, is more than happy to add Styrge Abhorreth’s Embittered Hail spell to his toolkit — both to press home his domination and keep enemies at bay.
Also, since it’s an eldritch model, Styrge Abhorreth can cast even more spells via Vorsalys’ Illimitable Power.
Vorsalys holds court in the Fane of Nyrro Court of Shadows army box.
Nymara the Shadowblade
If you’re familiar with Nymara, you’ll know the lack of the word “warbeast” in Abhorreth’s tags puts a bit of a limit on their direct synergy.
However, Nymara does like to include a far greater number of warbeasts in her army than anyone else, allowing the Abhorreth near-unlimited access to fury for spells and boosts.
Newly unleashed, Nymara is Fane of Nyrro’s formidable apotheosis warlock.
Harasheth the Gorged Darkness
This is a match made in whatever the immortal eldritch version of “heaven” is.
Not only can Styrge Abhorreth stop the massive amounts of Torment Harasheth inflicts on the enemy from expiring, but Harasheth can also then spend the hunger that generates to keep a steady supply of +2 ARM on Styrge Abhorreth in return.
(This is about as fair a trade as Harasheth is ever likely to make.)
Beyond that, while Harasheth likely won’t bring as many warbeasts to the front lines as Nymara, he is the best leader in the army at managing their fury, using his very high ARC stat of 9.
That makes Harasheth the top warlock for letting Styrge Abhorreth do its thing without needing to deal with the pesky aftereffects of his beasts frenzying. Win win!
