Old Umbrey has brought arms to bear(s) - Pre-order the Old Umbrey Auxiliary Expansion - Steamforged Games
Published on  August 5, 2025Updated on  August 5, 2026

The dark snow-littered forests of the Umbrean borderlands have fallen silent.

The calm quiet felt only before a ferocious ursine charge.

The Old Umbrey Auxiliary Expansion is now available to pre-order — a twisted complement of beasts, druids, and hunter's precision. And at least one warlock who can politely be described as “naturally gifted.”

This is where your Umbrean army starts becoming the legend only myths spoke of.

We recommend getting your pre-order in early — this release is going to allocation, and once pre-order stock runs out, it’ll shift to made-to-order with an estimated 4–8 week lead time plus shipping.

Rooting for Umbrey

She grows on you. Like thorns.

One of the Children of Agha and a powerful druid, Olesea promises to weaponize the lands of Khador against any foe. She is a dark witch who carries herself with dignity and grace despite her gloomy trappings.

The roots and stems of the plants near her react to her presence; thorny growth burgeons around her and gracefully twists and glides in the air with each of her movements like an extension of her body.Through the root systems, she communes with all the surrounding lands, feeling the resonance and health of every tree, shrub, or blade of grass.

Recently she found a trace connection to a profound, ancient, and dark tree that serves as an extension of the Devourer Wurm’s will, Wurmwood. It failed to entrap her as an unwilling servant, but it succeeded at alluring her with enhanced control of her powers, secretly earning her loyalty.

Olesea rewards clever positioning and punishes opponents who rely on mobility. She’s excellent when paired with infantry-heavy lists, especially the Liegemen Wardens from the Old Umbrey Core Expansion, whose resilience lets them hold ground while Olesea’s Spring Blades punishes those that dare get close.

The dark sister watches

She’s with the warlock. Don’t ask questions.

This hunched crone covers herself in layered cloth and feathers while her face is concealed beneath the skull of a giant raven. She appears mysteriously from the forests of Khador leading wild and savage beasts to aid the Umbreans in the defense of their lands. She both appears and vanishes with no warning as she tips the scales of fate towards the Old Witch’s desires.

It is often theorized she could be sister, daughter, or another blood relation to the Old Witch, as those who have seen both claim they feel a similar unnerving presence emanating from their hunched forms.

Jezhanna begins attached to a faction leader, acting as a dark extension of a their will, gathering corpse tokens to unleash a range of abilities upon her enemies.

Jezhanna’s Peak and Pine ability makes her truly dangerous, this lets her spend a corpse token to unleash an attack that If it damages, her attached leader can transfer damage one time to that model before expiring — a dark insurance policy, wrapped in bark and blood.

Trigger discipline, terminal results

Camouflage optional. Accuracy mandatory.

Rural hunters and survivalists with firearm familiarity that joined the Liegemen were organized and trained to hone their skills. Practicing with heavy hunting rifles, they learned to aim the large bore rounds to ensure a casualty with each trigger pull. Utilizing their proficiencies as woodsmen they travel light to quickly cross terrain and rapidly offer fire support to their lines.

The Liegemen Hunters are expert skirmishers — trained for brutal terrain, dirty ambushes, and the kind of shooting that leaves enemy solos rethinking their life choices.

There’s pride behind every trigger pull, especially when a Head Shot removes a troublesome target from play, ignoring Tough and other survival tricks. RAT 6 and POW 12 give them a reliable bite and they’re even deadlier at holding choke points.

Pair them with a Liegemen Primalist from the Old Umbrey Core Expansion for a real tactical edge — Cunning of the Wolf gives your Hunters Stealth in cover, while Path of the Lynx lets them snipe from forests like Umbrean ghosts.

They’ve got bears. Plural.

Yes, actual bears. With armour.

Umbrean horses were scarce after they were requisitioned en masse by the the Khadoran military or seized by the new Castellon of castle Tzepesci. Many trained riders that wished to carry on the legacy of the famed horselords found themselves without a mount.

Bears tamed through magic made fine substitutes in their absence but required a shift in combat training. The mount pouncing on targets rather than passing by made fighting from saddle incredibly difficult to all but a few. The riders, Liegemen Ursans evolved to equipping snub-nosed blunderbusses to enable them to contribute to battle despite the unstable platform they fought from.

They’re a durable frontline unit with ARM 18 and Unyielding, making them a nightmare to dislodge in melee. Their dual claws with Critical Knockdown punish enemies and create brutal setups for your warbeasts or heavier hitters. Backed by their Ursan Champion, this unit delivers powerful charges and can withstand a serious beating.

So, if you want to anchor your line and let your warlocks do their thing, this is your wall.

This bear is a necessity

Yes, he’s in charge. No, you can’t pet it.

When Umbreans lost their horses, some clever souls turned to bears. As it turns out, once you’ve bonded with a war-trained apex predator, going back to saddles and reins feels a bit underwhelming.

The Ursan Champion is one of those riders — a natural leader who adapted to his new mount with surprising ease and an admirable lack of fear. Those who stood out among their fellow bear-riders were elevated to command, their height, presence, and very large companions making them hard to ignore.

These Champions coordinate the elite Liegemen Ursans, charging headlong into the fray with the calm precision of someone who trusts their bear implicitly.

On the table, he does exactly what you’d hope: buffs his allies. He hands out movement with Desperate Pace, damage with Stir the Blood, and accuracy with Veteran Leader. It’s like someone put a warcaster’s support package in a cavalry solo and gave it fur.

Liegemen that bear the burden

You disable. They clock in.

Similar to the Lupine shifted, some of those that risk accepting the gifts of the Wurm share different animal affinities.

Where the Lupine use their ferocity, the Ursine leverage their resilience and might to ensure the safety of their people. Exchanging a piece of their identity for the power to protect those around them, the ursine are no less vicious when acting to save the lives of others.

Ursine shifted don't start on the field. They emerge when the time is needed, when a Marked model nearby is disabled the Ursine Shifted inside takes its place — claws out, ready to heroically intervene. That’s Shapeshifter, a manifestation of the Shifted’s role: to take the blow for the greater good.

Paired with Protective Rage and Shield Guard, the Ursine Shifted becomes a flexible bodyguard, intervening with a selfless kind of fury.

Bearly human

There’s embracing your primal instincts, and then there’s this.

Those that opened themselves up to the full breadth of the Wurm’s power and lost their humanity in exchange. Done out of necessity in sacrifice to their homeland, they are transformed into robust and mighty embodiments of the Devourer's influence as a result.

Once that transformation is complete, there’s no going back. But then again, when you’re smashing warjacks into pulp with your bear hands, who’d want to?

On the battlefield, the Apex is summoned via Shapeshifter, arriving when a marked ally becomes disabled from attack. From there, it only escalates: Defiant Rage boosts its stats when it takes damage, Retaliatory Strike punishes engagement, and Shield Guard lets it intercept threats to your warlock.

A must-have expansion for any Umbrean commander

With powerful characters, elite units, and unique solos, the Old Umbrey Auxiliary Expansion opens up new archetypes, combos, and tactical flexibility.

You’ll want this alongside your Command Starter and Core Expansion to bear witness to the full strength of what the Old Witch has been brewing. And if you’re fielding Olesea or Jezhana, you’ll want to build lists that let them shine.

No gears. No smoke. Just talons, teeth, and ancestral wrath.

Pre-order the Old Umbrey Auxiliary Expansion today and give your Umbrean army the right to bear arms…alright i’ll stop with the bear puns now.
